The Open Beta for Elite:Dangerous will be launching on the 29th June 2014.
As Frontier has reminded it’s email subscribers if you want to get all the add-ons included with the game you have until the 29th to grab your copy of ED with the included add-ons. (There is also a separate pass for these as well) Open Beta will allow anyone to play the game for the first time as preiuam beta tests have been playing the game for the past couple of months early at the price of £100 an account.
Frontier has also stated in the email update that they are preparing for the future of Elite Dangerous and focusing on getting the full game out in Q4 2014 with future updates being delivered as paid for expansions. To further add to the experience the devs have also said you will be able to walk around the ships once the game launches, after launch the team is planning on adding planet landing, AI in stations and ground combat (in the very distant future akin to Star Citizen)
Be warned Elite:Dangerous has little to no tutorial so you may spend hours looking for hotkeys.
Here are some basic controls which may help.
Cntrl+1 Comms Panel
Cntrl+2 Radar Screen
Cntrl+3 Inventory/Landing Gear
Enter Weapon activation
Space (confirm via comms menu)
S Thrust Down
X Thrust Up
All-thought the Open Beta is nearly upon us the game is complex to an outsider. It’s one of the few games I would personally buy a Rift and Joystick to play with. Why? Lots of buttons, Lots of UI systems it just makes more sense to go into the full simulation immersed. One thing is for sure, Elite:Dangerous has one of the most advanced space simulations going. The sheer amount of detail put into the game makes you wonder what Star Citizen is going to be like once the Polishing has been done.
