EVE Online has a new producer known as CCP Seagull/Andie Nordgren decided to do an AMA with the /r/Eve community with over 700 comments mainly consisting of complaints about the lack of clarity in the responses of questions. Needless to say there was a multitude of questions that where responded to and some promises towards fixing Null Sec. And promises of more customizable ships in the future.
Future Expansions Dates in 2014 – Hyperion on August 26th 2014 Oceanus on September 30th 2014 Phoebe on November 4th 2014 and Rhea on December 9th 2014
CCP Seagull did a presentation discussing the new release cycle and Project Legion. Andie showed a demo of a custom ship being “pimped out” in development. She also discussed during the presentation that they are focused to fixing/revamping corps and alliances after the Industry overhaul.
User LG03 said “It’s fairly obvious that people are unhappy with the current state of affairs with regards to nullsec politics and sov mechanics. Every day there’s multiple posts just here on reddit with new schemes to ‘fix’ null. There’s a growing sentiment that if the current situation continues unabated that it may be a precursor to the end of EVE. Is CCP content to remain hands off or are there changes in the works, if so can you discuss anything in particular?”
responding back to LG03’s question CCP Seagull said “We have change coming! We are hands-off when it comes to the specific interaction between players, but certainly not hands-off when it comes to designing how the game works.”
UncleGraga said “how about fixing the mechanics of how we interact in nullsec so we dont get bored”
With a prompt response from CCP Seagull: “That’s exactly the idea. We have things in the works, and you’ll hear more about it soon as we start talking about our plans – but that will come from the teams working directly on it – I am not going to present some specific solution here. But we are working on what to do, and because we are already on a long running plan where fixing industry, creating the mobile structures, improving corporations and alliances was always building up towards making major improvements to nullsec and sovereignty, we are in a pretty good place to start making changes now, especially with our new release model.”
Headwuend requested: “Can you make EVE more, I dunno, psssshhhhhhhh?”
CCP Seagull responded: “I’ll get right to that after I’ve shipped some Hello Kitty ship skins!” – there you go. Hello Kitty ship skins confirmed!
Editor’s Thoughts: While the Null Sec refresh will impress many of the Null Sec visitors for others this is concerning. EVE Online has a CSM (a community driven counsel which has powers to veto and even pull away features that developers want to implement.) This has been done before with the Incarna update which promised to include walkable space stations. In the end the update was vetoed by the CSM as being too radical. With every change you do get concerned with the possibility of the features being pulled by the CSM it’s just the nature of the game.
