After my previous impressions of Elite Dangerous I decided to continue on with the journey, I continued to on with my experience.
The Delivery Run
I decided to go ahead and continue doing my courier runs, The first two contracts where pretty easy pick ups and drop offs, the 3rd contract felt different, I decided to venture to an LP star system. Setting off for a jump I remained in hyper space for 30 minutes, all of a sudden I am pushed out of warp minutes before jumping to the LP system, Over the open comms channel an NPC shouts “I want your cargo.” As i scrable around my ship attempting to figure out whats going on. I stabilize the main shields and bring the weapons online deploying the hard points. In the meantime the NPC was shooting my ship to fine pieces, I then looked at the radar and discovered the ship was above me. I then attempted to fire back at the ship however as sparks where starting to fly and the fact I had only 15% hull integrity I decided to do an emergency hyper jump, Of course this jump could have emitted even more damage to the ship if I had done a bad jump. Upon Jumping successfully to the station without any additional damage I called out to the station port for a landing request. Thankfully this was granted pretty quickly and I had to work with flying a half dead ship to it’s landing zone. Trust me when it comes to landing a damaged ship you shouldn’t feel like this guy…
So your dealing with most of your spaceship being unresponsive, Do you A) Panic or B) Assume the position Well if you said either of them you would probably fail at landing. Luckily for me I used a term my grandad once taught me during his pilot licensing training. “Everything Gentle” Basically fly a slow as humanly possible then line up with the landing strip and slowly glide in. When I finally landed I relaxed and visited the station services. Unfortunately the damage created by the pirate ran into my overall profit margin. The overall bill was 525 credits. Not bad really for a ship that’s 85% dead. I then ventured to the beagle 5 station which was around 4LYs away. When i got there I found I would be able to purchase the Eagle. Finally after 4 hours I could upgrade, I pressed purchase and waited….the screen went black and well there wasn’t much going on. I decided to restart the game to try and fix the problem.
The master reboot
Once I rebooted the game I was in a new environment, I went into the systems services and checked the load-out of the ship to discover that I was flying an Eagle (Hell Yeah!), I quickly decided to launch for the first time, booting up the thrusters I noticed in the distance there was a disturbance by the main exit and entry point to the station. I slowly moved to one side with several other ships however a huge ship (probably a transporter) flew in so fast they knocked both me and the guy in front. I got the message up saying my ship had been destroyed and I could buy a new one for 2,000 credits. The FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU came to mind at this time when I decided to accept and cut my losses and quit the game for the night. overall I had an interesting experience ruined by either bad AI or some dude wanting to kill other ships. Overall the NPC/Piriate pulling me out of warp space was an interesting new take on the persistant universe I wasn’t really expecting, A nice touch frontier!
I shall bring you my next installment of being a newbie once I upgrade to my next ship…Should be more eventful.
