I was fortunate enough to be able to sit down and chat with some chaps over at Warner Brothers and Rocksteady, The Guys are rocksteady are extremely passionate when it comes to the beloved batman franchise and from we have been able to see, they are certainly on track to making Batman Arkham Knight a hit in the gaming box office.
Unfortunately for us, our recording systems where faulty however thanks to my super hero powers of having a photographic memory we will be able to still experience the interview!
Can you tell us a little more about the final plot/story of Batman Arkham Knight?
Well in the previous Batman series the main villain had batman chasing thru arkham asylum and the second thru a small island on Arkham. The final game in the series is focusing more on Gotham City as a fully explorable open world. Crime has become rampant and (major spoiler alert) the major villain (The Joker voiced by the legendary Insert Name Here) has died. This Unifies all the villains batman previous dealt with (The Pegiun, Two Face and Piosion Ivy to name a few) and finally the main villain in Arham Knight is Scarecrow. Scarecrow has been in the previous games however in Arkham Knight the scarescrow is attempting to release a horrid bio agent into gotham city. It’s batman’s chance to finally save gotham once and for all.
From what we can see, This game now includes a fully intergrated Open World, Can you desribe the difference between Batman Arkham’s world?
Batman Arkham Knight is shipping with the largest map (Gotham City) in a batman game (x5 larger than the batman arkham knight), The vertical of the gameplay really does shine thought with Batman: Arkham Knight as well as Horizontally. Giving People the free roam of Gotham City is a big step in the franchise, in the past iterations you was on smaller maps that included Arkham City however giving Batman free roam to explore his home city for the final title is critical for the gamers. We hope players will see the sheer amount of detail we have put into the game’s atmosphere, From Rain and shadow effects to the particle system. The batmobile will be your central way of traveling between parts of the city but you can get out of your car at any time and explore the surrounding areas. Batman Arkham Knight will provide larger zones to explore, discover and make more stories.
Can you tell us a little bit about the game engine technology behind the new Batman Arkham Knight?
Batman Arkham Knight is running on Unreal Engine 3 with heavy customizations made by the internal engineering team at rocksteady. They have spent 3 years trying to get the right rain, shadow and lighting effects just right for the open world game. In addition it seems the Particle system has been given a full overhaul and textures look amazing from the previews we have seen!
Can you tell us a bit more about the Batmobile?
The new bat mobile is the most technically advanced vehicle in the batman franchise. While the batmobile has guns they do fire only non lethal rounds. We really look forward to showing everyone the latest gadgets and gismos batman has.
