A community run public game chat known as Haulers channel has been taken over by new management.
Haulers was a in-game public chat that allowed people to post up courier contracts for potential haulers. The chat gained many followers and became part of the back-bone of Hauling Chat services.
The MOTD has been defaced with the following message
We heard about the news after a bunch of executives from some of the largest courier firms in EVE discussed the CODE. Some of the executives feel that the CODE adds additional game-play and character to the game while others are offended, angered and frustrated that the channel has now become a CODE agent’s heaven.
In addition on the /r/eve sub-reddit a user by the name of Puzzlecars stated
“For people who wondered how this happened, the owner of the channel has not been active for years and ownership of the channel was petitioned.”
How did this happen?
It seems that a code sleeper agent was able to get moderators rights to the channel (by possibly petitioning a request to take ownership of the channel) and was able to kick everyone except from the owner whom is currently not playing EVE Online. They then went to work defacing the chat and requesting that haulers pay permits to haul goods. This is a new stance for the CODE now using the term “The Law of HighSec” whom where used to selling Miner Permits but now seems to be diversifying into Hauling Permits as well.
What is the CODE?
The Code/The Law of HighSec/Minerbumping: is a cult/rp group that specializes in HighSec Enforcement. There beliefs are that High Security systems belong to the CODE. There beliefs stem from wanting to ensure no one AFK’s during mining to purchasing permits for law enforcement. The permits are often an image a user has to put in there profile to say they support the code. If the miner/hauler/whoever refuses to buy a permit they are bumped repeatedly by enforcement officer the worst case scenario could be a suicidal gank committed by an enforcement officer.
Rektober has been announced by the CODE. There aim is to cause freighter chaos by ganking targets not connected or a member of the CODE.
Code Official Responds
The code have responded, a pilot and diplomat by the name of Rabe Raptor claims he had been moderating the channel from day one. Here was our interview with him.
Q: How did this plan fall into action?
Rabe Raptor : The channel was always mine, I was one of the first moderators
Rabe Raptor : I was literally a moderator of this channel on the day it was being made
Rabe Raptor : My only regret is tolerating as much smearing as I did for as long as I did.
Rabe Raptor : So much misinformation and lies and slander… *shakes head*
Rabe Raptor : Don’t get me wrong, I once was a carebear.
Rabe Raptor: I was ganked long ago
Rabe Raptor: I understand the inability to see past just “getting popped”
Rabe Raptor: Hopefully eventually they’ll see the light as I did; I am sure some never will though.
Additional Intel (Account Takeover Theory)
We have heard that the previous information provided by the code is false. According to one of our sources (whom will not be named for anonymity), A character (Maya Exsequor whom was a higher ranking moderator of the hauling channel) was sold during a Character Bazaar (an auction that took place on the 8th of October) After this character was sold it seems the channel was then taken over and purged. So it seems like a moderator’s character was sold to a CODE agent’s alt and then purging began. This certainly has a lot of weight including the forum posts that indicate that a moderator sold there account.
It’s safe to say that the Hauling channel has been compromised as part of a strategic and clever attack by the CODE. There have already been other hauling chat services that have been setup however it seems that the CODE enforcement officers have been tracking these chat systems down as well by setting up ganking contracts. It’s safe to say the best way to arrange a contract is via the public contracts services.
